Twenty minutes hike north of Montezuma is a small beach, stream, and wasterfall called “Piedra Colorada” which is a fairly easy hike and a popular destination for both tourists and locals.
Further past is Playa Grande, but many stop here because it’s so scenic, lots of people hang out here, and there’s more shade.
A local artist named Jake used to come out to Piedra Colorada every morning to rebuild a balanced rock sculpture garden here, and the tradition has stuck, so you although Jake hasn’t lived in the area for quite some time, you will probably still find that others are adding their own stone towers to the garden.
Piedra colorada is a great place for children. It has a small sandy beach, but the kids usually play in a freshwater pool with a small waterfall.
My new favorite restaurant, Clandestina is not to be missed by food lovers staying anywhere near to Montezuma. Established in March 2015, Clandestina is the new kid on the block.
